Import / Export Eclipse shortcuts / key bindings

When working with Eclipse for a while you might have defined your own shortcuts / key bindings for your favourite commands in Window -> Preferences -> General -> Keys. But how do you export the shortcuts / key bindings from your current Eclipse installation to be able to import them to a new Eclipse installation on some other computer? Here is a step-by-step guide:

Export Eclipse shortcuts/key bindings:

  1. Select “File -> Export…” in the Eclipse menu.
  2. Choose “Preferences” in the “General” folder.
  3. Click “Next”.
  4. Select “Choose specific preferences to export”.
  5. Select “Keys Preferences”.
  6. Decide a file name for the exported shortcuts/key bindings.
  7. Click “Finish”.

Import Eclipse shortcuts/key bindings:

  1. Select “File -> Import…” in the Eclipse menu.
  2. Choose “Preferences” in the “General” folder.
  3. Click “Next”.
  4. Browse for your exported shortcuts/key bindings file.
  5. Select “Choose specific preferences to export”.
  6. Select “Keys Preferences”.
  7. Click “Finish”.
